Gua Cerita - The Cave of Legends

Another fascinating limestone cave you would like to explore is Gua Cerita-the cave of legends, well-known for its archaeological discovery. It is easily accessible by hiring a boat from Tanjung Rhu and has a unique rock formation.

It consists of two limestone caves on top of one another, both facing the sea. It is said to be associated with various mystical legends and stories. The most famous of all is the story of Battle of the Big Birds. It is believed that the prince of Rome kidnapped the Chinese princess in order to marry her and kept her in this cave as a prisoner.

You can see the ancient Arabic inscriptions on the walls of the cave theoretically dated from 1754 during the empire of Sultan Mohamed Jiwa II of Kedha.

It is also linked with a story of a giantess named Gadembai who had deadly supernatural powers of changing anyone into an ox. She turned the inhabitants of this cave into stones because she wanted to live in this cave.
